Optics, Compass and Housing at a Glance

7x50 Porro Prism Optics

The 7x50 layout pairs 7x magnification with 50mm objective lenses. Porro prisms made of BAK4 glass and a multi-coated lens system make up the optical path you look through on deck.

Nitrogen-Filled Housing

The internal air is replaced with dry nitrogen, and the body is closed with double O-ring seals. This is the sealed construction used for the housing of this marine binocular.

Compass and Rangefinder

A backlit compass and a rangefinder reticle sit in the view. You read a heading and estimate distance to an object without lowering the binocular, and a light switch turns on the compass illumination.

Individual Eyepiece Focus

Each eyepiece focuses on its own, with no center wheel. You set both sides for your eyes while sighting a distant object. Fold-down rubber eyecups adapt the eyepieces for eyeglass wearers.

Frequently Asked Questions

The rubber eyecups fold down. Twist them down, hold the binocular against your glasses and adjust each eyepiece until the image looks sharp to you.

The first number is the magnification, 7x. The second is the diameter of each objective lens in millimeters, here 50mm. Both figures describe the optical layout of this binocular.

Use the dedicated light switch. It turns on the compass illumination so you can read the heading when ambient light is low. Press it again to switch the illumination off.

There is no center wheel. Sight a distant object, then turn the left and right eyepieces one at a time until the view looks sharp to you. Leave the settings as they are for that outing.

Unscrew the cap on the small battery compartment, swap in a fresh cell and screw the cap back on. No tools are needed. Check the user manual for the cell type.

Put the adjustable neck strap around your neck before you head out on deck. When you are not using the binocular, keep it in the padded carry bag.

Use the included microfiber cloth to wipe the lens surfaces and the body. Take spray and salt off the glass before you pack it away so deposits do not sit on it.

Place it in the padded carry bag and keep that inside the storage box. Both come in the package. Choose a dry spot at home or in your gear locker.

Marine binoculars such as the NaviScope marine binocular use a 7x50 format with 50mm lenses and a nitrogen-purged, double O-ring sealed housing. This model also adds a backlit compass and a rangefinder reticle.

Every NaviScope marine binocular set includes the 7x50 binocular, an adjustable neck strap, a microfiber cleaning cloth, a padded protective carry bag, a presentation storage box and an illustrated user manual.
