What you get with the EdgeRoll sharpener

Magnet angle lock

A magnet holds your knife at the preset angle you choose. You roll the disc along the blade, and each pass follows the same angle without you holding the blade by hand.

Diamond and ceramic discs

The 400-grit diamond disc is the coarse stage for nicked or rolled edges. The 1000-grit ceramic disc is the fine stage that polishes the edge. Both discs can be replaced.

EdgeRoll

N42 magnet base

The base uses N42-grade magnets that hold a 10-inch chef knife from heel to tip. You lay the blade down on the wood, and the magnet keeps it in place as you roll.

Walnut and beech base

The housing is walnut and beech wood with aluminum reinforcement. It sits on the counter while you roll the discs, and it stores in the box between uses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pick an angle preset, lay the knife on the magnet base and roll the diamond disc down the blade four times per side. Then repeat with the ceramic disc. Wipe the blade when you finish.

Use 12° for sushi blades, 15° for chef knives and santokus, 17° for German-style chef knives, 19° for utility and paring knives, and 22° for cleavers. The printed guide lists common knife types.

One disc is 400-grit diamond, used as the coarse stage. The other is 1000-grit ceramic, used as the fine stage. You roll the coarse disc first and the fine disc second.

Both discs thread on and off the roller. Use the included disc thread tool to remove a disc and screw on the new one. Keep the tool with the sharpener in its box.

The rolling disc is made for straight edges. Use it on paring knives, chef knives, cleavers and other plain-edge blades. Serrated knives are not what this sharpener is built for.

The base is walnut and beech wood with aluminum reinforcement. The magnets inside are N42-grade. Keep the base dry and store it in the box when you are not using it.

Start with the 400-grit diamond disc and roll it along the blade for more passes than usual. Then switch to the 1000-grit ceramic disc to finish the edge. Repeat the session if needed.

The N42-grade magnets in the base hold the knife against the preset angle. They are sized to hold a 10-inch chef knife from heel to tip while you roll the disc.

A rolling knife sharpener such as EdgeRoll is built for straight edges, so it does not suit serrated knives. Its discs are replaceable, and a magnetic base holds the blade at one of five preset angles.

The set contains a wood sharpening base with a five-angle magnet lock, a 400-grit diamond disc, a 1000-grit ceramic disc, a disc thread tool, a microfiber wipe cloth, a printed angle guide and a storage box.

EdgeRoll: A Rolling Knife Sharpener with Magnetic Base

EdgeRoll is a rolling knife sharpener that holds a blade on a walnut and beech base with aluminum reinforcement. A magnet locks the knife in place at one of five preset angles, from 12° to 22°.

Like any rolling sharpener, it works by rolling a disc along the blade. EdgeRoll uses a 400-grit diamond disc for coarse work and a 1000-grit ceramic disc for polishing. Both discs screw off and can be replaced with the included thread tool.

As a magnetic knife sharpener for the home kitchen, it suits straight-edge knives such as chef knives, santokus, paring knives and cleavers. It is not intended for serrated blades. A printed angle guide lists common knife types.

  • Five-angle magnet lock base with N42-grade magnets
